Brookline Police arrested a woman today who allegedly stole a pocketbook left behind when a parishioner got up to receive communion in church Sunday.
Marie Carnegie, 42, of Riverdale Street, Allston was arrested near her home shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday on charges including larceny and misuse of a credit card under $250.
Police said they obtained a warrant for Carnegie’s arrest Tuesday after someone identified her in a photo that had been released through the media following the theft.
The photo was of a woman who attempted to use a stolen credit card at the TJ Maxx Sunday around 11:40 a.m., about two hours after the credit card was stolen along with a purse and a cellphone.
Police said the purse was stolen when a woman in St. Mary’s Church left it on a bench while receiving communion.
Police said Carnegie was expected to be arraigned in Brookline District Court Wednesday.
