A few hundred Brookline residents are still without power after Tropical Storm Irene knocked down trees and thousands of branches around town Sunday.

Brookline Police said Monday that 286 customers on Welland Road are still without power and about 326 residents along Newton Street in Chestnut Hill, which includes portions of Newton and Brookline, are still without power.

The town has 12 crews working to address about 122 trees or large portions of trees that were knocked down by the storm, and thousands of limbs and branches were also knocked down.

Police Lt. Philip Harrington said no storm-related injuries were reported in the town and the effect of the storm could have been worse.

“I think we were very lucky,” he said.
