Woman's purse stolen when she got up for communion Sunday

Brookline Police are trying to identify a thief who swiped a woman’s handbag when she got up to receive communion at St. Mary’s Church Sunday.

Police said the woman left her bench to receive communion at the Catholic church on Harvard St. about 9:30 a.m. and her bag, including her cell phone and credit cards, were stolen. Police said the victim, whose name has not been released, is visiting from Oklahoma and her identification was also stolen.

Brookline Police Detectives received information that someone attempted to use the victim’s credit card at T.J. Maxx at 525 Harvard St. at about 11:40 a.m. but was denied.
