Brookline Police probe fatal weekend crash on Harvard Street
Police are investigating the cause of a crash near Brookline Village early Saturday that killed a 26-year-old Mattapan man who was riding in the back seat of the car.
Brookline Police said Joshua Wright was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital just a couple of hours after the vehicle he was in hit a tree near 114 Harvard St. at 3:47 a.m. Saturday.
Wright had been in the back seat of a grey sedan driven by a 22-year-old man, whose name has not been released, when the car struck a tree on Harvard Street. Police said that when they arrived on the scene the car was facing north on the southbound side of the street. The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Brookline Police Lt. Phil Harrington said no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing. Harrington said this morning that at this point in the investigation police do not believe alcohol or excessive speed were factors in the crash.
