South End Mexican restaurant El Centro is preparing to open a second location in Brookline Village.

El Centro owner Rabiul Islam is buying the existing Tashi Delek Indian restaurant at 236 Washington St. and will convert it into another El Centro.

Islam appeared before the Brookline Board of Selectmen at their meeting Tuesday in Town Hall, and the board approved the transfer of a common victualler and alcoholic beverages license from Tashi Delek to El Centro.

The Mexican restaurant’s lease starts in November, but Islam’s attorney George Heos said it could be until mid December before the restaurant gets its needed approvals from the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.

Islam owns the El Centro at 474 Shawmut Ave. in Boston's South End. The Brookline location is expected to have 26 seats.
