With a buyer interested, Pine Manor College has temporarily withdrawn a request to subdivide a 5.2-acre portion of its campus so it can discuss the proposal with its neighbors.

The small liberal arts college in Chestnut Hill had been scheduled to appear before Brookline’s Zoning Board of Appeal Thursday night seeking permission to subdivide the land.

A representative from the office of Pine Manor's interim president, Ellen Hurwitz, said Wednesday that the college is not in a position at this time to comment on the property.

But Polly Selkoe, an assistant director in Brookline’s Planning and Community Development Department, said the College is seeking to subdivide a lot of its campus at 400 Heath St. The subdivided lot would have access to Woodland Road, she said.

Robert Allen, an attorney and former Brookline Selectman, said Wednesday that he is representing someone who is interested in purchasing the subdivided lot from the college. Allen declined to name his client.

The Boston Herald is reporting speculation that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen are interested in building a house on the property.
Patriot’s owner Robert Kraft lives a few doors down the street from the college.

Selkoe said there is no indication on Pine Manor’s application about who a potential buyer might be.

Selkoe said the College has informed the town it will be meeting with its neighbors about the property. She said the College can then re-submit its request and would likely appear before the Board of Appeal in January.
