Governor submits Brookline, West Roxbury court nominees

Gov. Deval Patrick nominated two people Wednesday to clerk-magistrate positions in Brookline and West Roxbury. Edward Savage Jr., the acting clerk magistrate at Brookline District Court, was nominated to replace Brian Lawlor at the court.

Sean Murphy, the clerk magistrate pro temp at Uxbridge District Court, was nominated to replace Richard Walsh in West Roxbury. A West Roxbury resident, Murphy was previously assistant clerk magistrate at Milford District Court, from 2006 to 2013.

Murphy has been a bail magistrate in Brookline, West Roxbury and Natick district courts since 2007, and previously had a private practice in Hyde Park and worked at a West Roxbury law office. The College of the Holy Cross, Boston College and Suffolk University Law School graduate held positions in the science department at Catholic Memorial School.

Savage was assistant clerk magistrate in Brookline from May 2000 to September 2011, and started his professional law career at the Suffolk District Attorney’s office, before running a private practice in Dorchester from 1993 until his clerkship. The Walpole resident graduated from Stonehill College with an English major and attended New England School of Law.

Councilor Robert Jubinville scheduled Murphy for a Sept. 25 interview at 10:30 a.m. and Savage for an Oct. 9 interview at 10:30 a.m.
