The Governor’s Council on Wednesday approved Edward Savage for the position of clerk magistrate in Brookline District Court and Cynthia Brackett for a judgeship at Taunton District Court.

Both votes were unanimous, Councilor Oliver Cipollini told the News Service. Brackett is a Bristol County prosecutor, and Savage has been the acting magistrate for years. The council Wednesday also interviewed Serge Georges, Jr., who was nominated to Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury Division; and John Stapleton, up for a judgeship at Fall River District Court.

Testifying on Stapleton’s behalf were District Court Judge Beverly Cannone, First Assistant District Attorney in Bristol County Thomas Quinn, Bristol prosecutor Katie Rayburn, and defense attorney Kevin Reddington. Testifying for Georges was attorneys Brian Hurley, Howard Cooper and Adam Cohen, as well as Chelsea District Court Judge Matthew Machera and Charlestown Chief Probation Officer Michelle Verdieu-Williams.
