A new 130-room hotel will soon come to Route 9 in Brookline after the town’s zoning board of appeals approved a new Homewood Suites by Hilton Thursday.
The five-story hotel being developed by Bridgewater-based Claremont Companies will be built at 111 Boylston Street/Route 9 near Brookline Village primarily on the old Red Cab headquarters site.
The extended-stay hotel will cater to guests staying an average of three days. It will be five-stories along Boylston Street/Route 9, it will step down to fewer stories at the rear of the property near the MBTA’s Green Line tracks and a residential neighborhood.
The hotel proposal has garnered little opposition, and the board of appeals Thursday unanimously approved special permits and variances for signs at the building, as well as a special permit that will allow a reduction in the size of a loading area required at the building.
Previous proposals by two other developers to build medical office space on the long-vacant Red Cab site both fell through in recent years.
