Berkshire Design Group of North Hampton, N.H., is finalizing the design of a multi-purpose park to be constructed on the 12-acre site of the former Wildwood School.  Don Lorinovich, Burlington's director of parks and recreation, said the town plans to select a contractor to perform the work once the design is complete. Construction is to begin this fall or in the spring, with the park scheduled to open June 1.  The $904,318 project is being undertaken with the help of a $470,245 state grant. The site, at Bedford and Greenwood streets, has been vacant since the school, which closed in 1996, was torn down in 2008.   It is in a part of town that does not have a park. The future Wildwood Park will feature a playground, a Babe Ruth sized baseball field, and a softball field, and can also be used for soccer during the fall. There will also be a walking path around the park perimeter, an unpaved 77-lot parking area, two basketball courts, and a small picnic area. Town Meeting last September authorized proceeding with the project, subject to Burlington receiving the state grant. The state awarded the grant in November. - John Laidler
