Police have charged a Cambridge man with cocaine trafficking after he was allegedly caught with 50 grams of the drug tucked in his pants near Kings Open Elementary School Monday.
Jeffrey Appolon, 24, of Thingvalla Ave., is also being charged with a drug violation near a school or park.
Cambridge Police said detectives from the departmentís Special Investigation Unit were in the area of the school and the Roosevelt Towers Monday about 7:30 p.m. conducting surveillance in response to reports of drug activity in the area.
Police learned that an individual would be in the area with a large amount of cocaine, and when detectives spotted Appolon, they found the cocaine hidden in the waistband of his pants. Police also discovered a digital scale that was disguised as a CD case and a Pringles potato chip container.
In a press release announcing the arrest Tuesday, Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C Haas said the department is pleased to have Appolon and a large amount of cocaine off Cambridge streets.
