Group visiting Cambridge businesses to promote energy efficiency
The Cambridge Energy Alliance and NSTAR will be sending workers to small businesses in Cambridge beginning Wednesday to promote methods that can be used to improve energy efficiency.
Businesses that implement the energy efficiency improvements will be eligible to receive a window sticker certifying them as a Green Business Leader.
The Alliance, a community-based nonprofit organization sponsored by the City of Cambridge, will be canvassing local business districts with the help of interns from Northeastern University’s Summer Discovery program. The interns will be visiting businesses in Harvard, Central, Porter, Inman, and Kendall squares, as well as East Cambridge, Huron Village and other clusters of businesses.
About 80 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Cambridge are from buildings and about 60 percent of those emissions come from the commercial sector, according to the Alliance. The group is hoping to educate about 1,000 businesses between Wednesday and July 22, about the money they can save and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions they can prevent by becoming more energy efficient.
