A male red-tailed hawk nicknamed Buzz by his human friends has returned to a Cambridge office building where he and his beloved Ruby raised three young hawks this spring and early summer.
Ernie Sarro, a local videographer and fitness instructor, captured the return of Buzz on July 31 and Aug. 10 on this video. The video is set to two versions of the song "Back in the Saddle Again'' by Gene Autry and by Aerosmith.
"I was passing the Fresh Pond Mall on the way to work, glanced up at the old nest, as I usually do, and my gosh, there is greenery in there,'' Sarro says in the narration of his video. "Thirty seconds after I set up my camera to document this finding, through the corner of my eye, it's a red-tail.''
This spring, two adults and their three chicks called the building at 185 Fresh Pond Parkway home for more than three months. The dad is known as "Buzz" and the mother is "Ruby." The three chicks were called "Lucy," "Larry," and "Lucky" by the crowd of photographers who documented their every move.
Sarro speculates that the recently returned hawk is laying claim to his territory so other hawks don't return next Spring. You can see previous photos of the hawks in this Your Town gallery.
