Four Cambridgeport School pupils learned a valuable lesson today after they mistook a can of pepper spray for cologne, Cambridge police said.
Two boys and two girls, all 8 or 9 years old, stumbled upon a can of what they thought was cologne in the playground at about 8:30 a.m., said Cambridge police spokesman Daniel Riviello.
"One of the boys went to spray his friends with cologne and when he did, they realized it wasnít cologne," Riviello said.
Instead, the boy sprayed the children with pepper spray, and they had to go to the hospital, where they were met by their parents, Riviello said.
The boy holding the pepper spray didnít need to go the hospital, Riviello said, and the other three children will be fine.
