The Cambridge Health Alliance announced today that patients can now check online to see how long the wait will be in the emergency rooms at the Cambridge, Somerville and Whidden hospitals.
Patients can also check the times via text messaging, according to the Cambridge Health Alliance.
The waiting times will be updated every 15 minutes based on the average waiting time for the previous four hours. The average waiting times can be found online at www.challiance.org, and can also be checked by texting “ertime” to 41411, according to a press release from the CHA Friday.
At 10:37 a.m. this morning, the wait at Cambridge Hospital was three minutes, and the wait at the Somerville Hospital and Whidden Hospital in Everett was two minutes, according to the CHA website.
The hospitals receive a total of 100,000 emergency room visits each year and patients typically begin receiving care within five minutes, the CHA said. The hospitals have improved patient flow through a streamlined admissions process using technology that monitors the status of every emergency patient in real-time, according to the CHA.
