Cambridge is hosting a free document shredding event at City Hall Saturday as part of National Consumer Protection Week.

The Cambridge Consumers’ Council is hosting the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of City Hall at 795 Massachusetts Ave.

Local officials from the Consumers’ Council, the Executive Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and the U.S. Postal Service and Postal Customer Council of Greater Boston will be on hand to help residents safely dispose of unwanted documents and records.

The free public shredding is the last in a series of events the Consumers’ Council has held this week in an effort to share tips and information to help consumers protect their privacy, manage money and debt and avoid identity theft, fraud and scams.

For more information about the event, contact Corey R. Pilz at 617-349-6154 or at cpilz@cambridgema.gov.
