It might slice into the business of their sandwich shop, but that hasn’t stopped restaurateurs Kosta and Johnny Diamantopoulos from opening the new All Star Pizza Bar in Inman Square today.
The brothers, who also own All Star Sandwich Bar in Inman Square, opened their new pizza shop diagonally across Cambridge Street at 11 a.m. this morning, and had already served 140 pizzas by 3 p.m.
“I would have been happy if we [sold that many] all day,” said Kosta.
Tuesday the All Star Pizza Bar, at 1238 Cambridge Street, had a sneak preview offering free slices in Inman Square, and Kosta said that for four hours the restaurant had a line of 150 people that stretched out the door. The restaurant served a total of 800 people that night. “That was insane,” he said.
Today, slices of cheese pizza are selling for $2.50, and pepperoni slices are going for $3.
“I think the neighborhood wanted appropriately priced pizza,” Kosta said.
Kosta said he and his brother don’t have any plans to alter their All Star Sandwich Bar across the street, but he expects the pizza shop could eat into the business of the other restaurant, at least in the short term.
“I think at first, just out of curiosity, people will try one over the other,” he said.
Both restaurants will keep the same hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
