Call of the wild: Some like it hot
The heat has not deterred Medford photographer George McLean from making the rounds of his favorite wildlife spots:
"I spent every day of a week at Mount Auburn's Willow Pond photographing hummingbirds. I usually stake out one bush or tree and wait for them to come to me. it works year after year. The brilliant red Bee Balm plant was the magic bush this time. There is only one in 170 acres, wish there were more."
"I was going through some of my osprey photos at the Mystic Lakes and I found this photo taken on a strange sky day. It is sort of back-lit, but a lot of action. Note the large bass (upside down) in the large raptor's talons."
"I have so many great shots from Mount Auburn, but here is one of a Hooded Merganser that always makes me laugh (I was thinking of getting my hair cut this way). Oh and by the way, I won't be filling the winter bird suet and seed feeder anymore. It was taken down because the environmental police said 'it would bring wild turkeys.' What?"
