Medford photographer George McLean offers a range of shots from his daily forays into the woods and fields:

"The great blue herons are everywhere and they can swallow anything," reported George after witnessing this unfortunate frog become dinner.



"We all see beauty in a different way. The name alone of this small elusive butterfly, American Beauty, is enough to  make you look.  Unlike most photographers, I use a 400 mm lens on butterflies and insects so I am not disturbing them being too close.

"A hint for photographers: the tower garden or the greenhouse flower garden at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge are great spots for these delicate and beautiful creatures."




And for the Red-tailed hawk lovers: "I am pretty sure this is a young male, small and swift.  I was sure that Hamlet was the father, but then I got a photo of a small mature Red-tail with no leg band bringing food, so maybe not."
