Street closures begin at 4:30 p.m. in Cambridge on July 4

Road closures on part of Memorial Drive and several other Cambridge streets near the Charles River will begin at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for the 39th annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular.

Memorial Drive will be closed in both directions from Massachusetts Avenue to the Longfellow Bridge at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the Longfellow Bridge will also close at that time.

The closures will continuing until the roadways have been cleaned following the celebration. The fireworks for the Fourth of July event are scheduled to begin at 10:35 p.m. and the cleanup will begin a half-hour after the last firework.

The Massachusetts Avenue Bridge will be closed in both directions at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Memorial Drive will also be closed from Massachusetts Avenue to the B.U. Bridge at that time.

Also Wednesday, Cambridge City Councilor Marjorie Decker will host a Fourth of July Celebration at Raymond Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Several city officials will be in attendance for the celebration, which will include a parade at 11 a.m. and a recitation of the Declaration of Independence. The parade will be followed by a light lunch in the park.
