Cambridge Police received false bomb threats at Harvard Square’s Holyoke Center early this morning, the Harvard University Police Department said.
At 4:50 a.m., Cambridge police received a report of bombs at 1350 Massachusetts Ave, Harvard police said. Officers from both departments searched the building but found no suspicious packages and determined it was safe for normal operations.
“It’s pretty clear this was a hoax,” said Steven G. Catalano, spokesman for Harvard police.
On Feb 23, a caller falsely reported a gunman was on the MIT campus retaliating for Internet activist Aaron Schwartz’s death. Catalano said he wouldn’t speculate whether this incident was similar to MIT’s false threat.
Cambridge police could not comment on the circumstances of this morning’s threats.
