MBTA Transit Police are charging a Boston woman with attempted kidnapping after she allegedly grabbed a 5-year-old boy by the waist and started an argument on bus in Cambridge Monday.

Transit Police said in a press release Wednesday that they have obtained an arrest warrant for Danyelle Abrams, 36, on charges of attempted kidnapping and two assault and battery counts stemming from the incident that occurred at a stop for the Route 47 bus and then on the bus in Cambridge.

Abrams is already in police custody on unrelated charges of malicious destruction of property after police said she shattered the glass on a MBTA bus door while it stopped at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Washington Street in Boston Tuesday.

On Monday, Transit Police were called to the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Pearl Street in Cambridge about 9:20 p.m. for a disturbance on a Route 47 bus.

Witnesses told police that a woman, who was later identified as Abrams, had approached a 5-year-old boy waiting at a bus stop with family members and attempted to engage the child in conversation. The child’s mother walked away with her child because she was uncomfortable with Abrams’s demeanor, police said. Abrams persisted, however, and then other family members intervened asking her to leave the child alone, police said.

Abrams became upset and began to yell at the family members, and witnesses told police that when the bus arrived Abrams boarded the bus and continued directing attention to the child. The family members demanded Abrams leave the child alone, and police said Abrams then grabbed the seated boy by the waist. A family member intervened and altercation ensued before Abrams fled the bus.

Transit Police said they obtained the arrest warrant for the attempting kidnapping charge from Cambridge District Court, which is in Medford.
