Sept. 11 commemoration at Bunker Hill monument, other Charlestown spots

The National Park Service will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on Sunday, with park rangers placing 3,000 flags on the monument's grounds to honor those who died that day.

With "Bunker Hill Bears Witness to 9/11," the park service joins other Boston landmarks and organizations in commemorating the anniversary of the attacks. Along with the flags, there will be hourly historical talks.

Events will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bunker Hill Monument.

--At the USS Cassin Young in the Charlestown Navy Yard, visitors are invited to observe a moment of silence with park rangers to honor the anniversary.

Park rangers will also contrast the Sept. 11 attacks with other "enduring moments in American history." The Navy Yard events will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.,1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m, and 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

--The Friends of City Square, the Charlestown Mothers Association, and Gardens for Charlestown will hold a memorial at noon in City Square Park.

The event will include the color guard, a flag raising, and music.
