Navy frigate USS Stephen W. Groves, a Florida-based ship, will join the USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard for the Columbus Day weekend.

According to the National Park Service, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate will arrive in the Navy Yard Friday, October 7 at 8 a.m., with the ship open for public viewing from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 9 and Monday, October 10.

The crew of 184 sailors, led by Commander Matthew Rick, will do community service Friday morning at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, and participate in Sunday's Columbus Day parade.

The ship, which last visited Boston in 2008, is named for Stephen W. Groves, a 25-year-old ensign from East Millinocket, Maine who was killed in the Battle of Midway on June 4, 1942, according to the Park Service.

Groves was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross citation for bravery.
