The Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard is set to honor Mayor Thomas M. Menino and a local organization for their work.

The non-profit groups plans to salute Menino and Charlestown Against Drugs at its annual meeting and “Winter Warm-Up” event on Thursday.

Charlestown Against Drugs was founded more than twenty years ago as a neighborhood coalition aimed at preventing and reducing substance abuse. The organization, long chaired by the late Peter Looney, offers educational programs for children, teenagers, and parents and meets once a month at the Charlestown Police Station.

The presentation of awards and social hour is open to members of the Friends group and the public. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the lobby of the Parris Landing condo building on First Avenue.
