Two Charlestown residents have been awarded scholarships to help them pursue their education in health sciences.
Caitlee Carrier and Sarah Shaheen were awarded the 2012 Partners Health Care Merit Scholarship at celebratory luncheon Wednesday at the Charlestown Navy Yard’s MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Carrier, a life-long Charlestown resident, received a $3,500 scholarship to help her pursue her bachelor’s degree in health care management at Elms College in Chicopee. Carrier, who is entering her junior year, decided to pursue a career in health care after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Shaheen, a Rochester, New York native, is enrolled in MGH Institute of Health Professions’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program, and received a $2,500 scholarship to help her pursue her degree.
The merit scholarship is awarded to Charlestown residents who have completed two semesters of a health degree program, not including a Medical Doctorate, and who have participated in community service.
In the past 11 years, the scholarship has grown from one $1,500 award to two awards totaling $6,000.
This is the third year the three Partners affiliates have jointly sponsored these scholarships.
