The Boston Redevelopment Authority board has approved a new apartment building that will bring 30 units of housing to Charlestown.
The BRA board, at its monthly meeting, unanimously approved a 56,770 square-foot apartment building at 30 Polk Street. The project, the authority said, is being built on an underutilized lot and will offer a mix of units for Boston families
The $5 million project will house 30 rental units, including five one-bedroom units, 22 two-bedroom units, and 3 three-bedroom units. Of the 30 units, four will be affordable.
The development will have 34 parking spaces and a spot reserved for a ZipCar.
Construction is slated to begin in early 2014.
