Reversing course at the last minute, Cohasset police announced early Tuesday morning that the superintendent had canceled school Tuesday.
The closures were “due to the new information from National Grid, in an abundance of caution, and at public safety’s recommendation,” a notice from police said.
A call also went out to parents and residents about the update early Tuesday morning. The night before, the town had issued a notice that Cohasset schools would reopen.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday the area near 244 Jerusalem Rd. was still closed as crews worked to remove two trees that had fallen. In addition, police were notified by National Grid that power to Jerusalem Road and the Beechwood section of town would not be restored until later today.
Cleanup crews were out also out early Tuesday to survey damage. Police said they would update the department’s Facebook page with information about road closures and power throughout the day.
