Letter to the Editor:

Every town has its traditions, the days when folks mosey on Main Street, say hello to neighbors and feel good coming together. West Concord has never really had any day that lasted, that clicked.

Now, with everyone’s help, we will! And with your help, we’ll all feel like we done good.
This coming Saturday, March 26th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dabbler’s, Debra’s Natural Gourmet, Firefly, Merlin’s Silver Star Studio, Nashoba Brook Bakery Café, noa jewelry, fine handcrafts & gifts, Phillips Fine Paint, Quilter’s Way, Reflections, and the West Concord 5&10 are launching Give Back Day in West Concord.

And we’re celebrating with you at an after-party at Merlin’s Silver Star back on Beharrell Street. More about that in a minute…

So what is Give Back Day? We 10 retailers are pooling and giving 5% of our day’s sales divided equally between these 10 non-profits (Open Table, Communities for Restorative Justice [C4RJ], Council on Aging, Domestic Violence Services, Network, Emerson Umbrella, Friends of the Concord Free Public Library, Gaining Ground, Minuteman ARC, Organization for the Assabet River [OAR], and the Concord Carlisle Community Chest)

Representatives of each non-profit will be in our businesses to explain what they do, to tell us how many people are helped not only in this community, but the surrounding towns.

Did I say that Give Back Day is more than 5% of our day’s sales? That there’s also a Silent Auction at Merlin’s Silver Star Studio. (Yes, go in and look and bid all day long.)
And, Stephanie Stillman, our terrific director of the Concord Chamber of Commerce has created a West Concord Give Back Day Passport to encourage everyone to have fun and visit all of the participating businesses and learn about more than one non-profit.
Passports will stamped with a purchase at each venue making you then eligible for a drawing for one of two $100 Gift of Concord Gift Certificates donated by the Chamber and by Middlesex Savings Bank.

Where’s the drawing? As you might guess, it’s at 5:00 back in Merlin’s at 50 Beharrell Street. A drawing, the end of the Silent Auction mentioned, and a party.

The party. Come, toast everyone in the community involved. A light repast will be provided by Slowpokes and Vincenzo’s. Libations by West Concord Liquors and desserts by yours truly, Debra’s Natural Gourmet!

Can you donate an item for the Silent Auction (remember you can bid ALL day long)? Yes! Give the Concord Chamber of Commerce a call at 978-360-3120. Silent Auction proceeds will also be split among the nonprofits.

So what am I personally doing on this Saturday, Give Back Day? In addition to being in my store happy to see you, I’m buying a gallon of paint at Phillips, a wedding gift at noa’s, and a piece of jewelry from Hillary. I’ll look for a blouse to wear to said wedding at Firefly.

Come, have a good time and support the non-profits who work so hard for all of us.

Best, Debra Stark
