Carlisle Town Meeting joins Concord in backing new $92.5m high school

The day after Concord approved funds for a new regional high school, residents at a special Town Meeting in Carlisle did the same. Carlisle residents supported building a new $92.5 million Concord-Carlisle Regional High School by a vote of 494 to 14 Tuesday night.

Residents in both towns will now head to the polls on Nov. 15 to vote on the proposal to override Proposition 2 ½’s limits on property tax increases to pay for the local share of the project.

The state in September voted to contribute about $28.8 million to replace the 50-year-old regional school. If residents approve the override, taxes for the average homeowner in Concord would go up by about $400. In Carlisle, taxes for the average homeowner would go up by about $700.

“We’re very excited and looking forward to next Tuesday,’’ said Karla Johnson, the co-chairwoman of the school building committee.
