Information in this report was provided on behalf of the CCHS girls lacrosse program.

On a cold & blustery Tuesday, the Wellesley Raiders managed to hold off the CC Patriots 10-7 at Doug White Field. Wellesley’s Annie Valle carried the hot stick of the day scoring 6 of the Raiders 10 goals while the Patriots were led by Becca Olsen (3 goals, 1 assist) and Allie Barrett (2 goals, 1 assist).

The Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before Olsen would tie up the game for CC. The following 15 minutes were controlled by Wellesley as CC was unable to gain ball possession on crucial draw controls and the Raiders went on an aggressive 5 goal run.

CC’s defense played well but was constantly put on task as Wellesley maintained pressure in the CC end for much of the first half. With less than 4 minutes remaining Patriot Captain Allie Barrett would help put CC back in the game as she found the back of the net on a nice feed from Olsen. The Patriots won the ensuing draw control, however a CC offside penalty would negate their chances of attempting a final shot on goal only to have the Raiders make fast work of the turnover in the scoring in the final seconds on a crease roll. At halftime the score was 7-2.

Coach Morrison said, "Our team is very young, and the lack of Varsity game time experience by most of our players showed. I thought our veterans played strong in the first half, and their example helped the new players settle down to perform better in the second half.”

The Patriots found renewed confidence in the second half outscoring the Raiders 5-3. After an initial goal by Wellesley, CC battled back on offense with a 3 goal run of their own led by Captains Kate Wyeth and Allie Barrett along with Becca Olsen . With the Patriots within three goals, CC’s Defenders Lucy Fell, Johanna O Neal and Brianna Stout intensified their tough, physical game keeping the Raiders away from the crease while Midfielders Emma Mahoney, Kate Wyeth & Allie Barrett continually back checked their opponents.

The Patriots continued to pressure Wellesley on offense and scoring twice more with goals by Olsen and Freshmen Hannah Dudley but Wellesley squeaked out two more goals keeping their lead at three.

Coach Morrison commented on the final score "Our team was not happy with the end result today, but there were some good things that happened on the field that we can build on for the rest of the season. Maddy Holmes had three saves and an interception in one half of play and earned the right to start our next game. We had eight players start there first Varsity game today, and another four players see their first Varsity action ever."

CC will host Weston this Thursday.
