The Friends of the Danvers Dog Park is holding a comedy night on March 9 to raise money for the Danvers Dog Park.

This show, which is at the Oniontown Grill (175 Water St.) features Boston favorites Jim Lauletta, Dave Rattigan, and Chris D. Doors.  Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m.

The off-leash dog park would be built behind the children’s playground at Endicott Park and has already been approved by the Board of Selectmen.

“We need to raise about $40,000 and we’ve only just begun,” said Carla King, a member of the Friends group. “We’re just hoping this will be a good beginning for us.”
King said the group raised about $3,000 during a yard sale over the summer, is selling t-shirts for $15 apiece and is having another yard sale in June.

“It would be wonderful to raise another three or four thousand [dollars] if we could,” King said. “Again, we have to raise $40, 000 before we can get going so we have a long way to go.”

While King said the park will provide a place for dogs to socialize, she doesn’t think it would solve the town’s problem of some dog owners not picking up after their pets.

“My personal opinion is that I think one doesn’t’ have anything to do with another, those dog owners need to pick up after their dogs period,” she said, adding that residents who don’t pick up after their dog on the street might not pick up after their dog in the dog park. “People will just have to police each other just like we do around town. I can see people leaving feces around the dog park too.

“Those same people will be a problem anywhere you go.”

Tickets for the show are $25. For tickets contact Carla King at (978) 884-4866 or carla.king@comcast.net.
