Stephen Anastasi pleaded not guilty in Essex Superior Court today in the November slaying of his father, John Anastasi, 60, in their home at 2 Auburn St.

Anastasi was originally arraigned in Salem District Court on the murder charge in November before the case was moved to Superior Court.

The 24-year-old Danvers man allegedly hit his father in the head with a hammer several times and then, after injecting heroin and going out to buy more, realized his father was still alive and fatally stabbed him in the neck, according to police.

He was held without bail according to Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett’s spokeswoman, Carrie Kimball Monahan.

Anastasi is due back in court for a pre-trail conference on March 29, according to Kimball Monahan.
