The Planning Board recently approved a site plan for a new Volkswagen dealership at 72 Andover St. (Route 114 East). The plan calls for demolishing an existing Fiat dealership and constructing in its place a single new approximately 32,177 square foot dealership building on the 4.7-acre site, according to town planner Kate Day. The new dealership will be operated by Kelly Automotive Group.
Cathleen Kavanagh, trustee of 72-74 Andover Street Realty Trust, which owns the property, had applied for approval. In other business, the board approved a request by the Texas Roadhouse restaurant at 301 Newbury St. (Route 1 North) for a major modification of its approved site plan for the property. Texas Roadhouse sought the change to build a 465 square foot addition to allow for more seating at the restaurant. The board approved a site plan submitted by Automotive Excellence to locate a used car dealership at 13 Hobart St.
Day said, meanwhile, that the board expects in the next several months to receive a site plan approval request for the project to build a new regional vocational-agricultural high school at the Essex Agricultural and Technical High School campus.The board has received draft plans for the project, which is being undertaken by the new district formed through the merger of the North Shore Technical High School and Essex Agricultural, with the addition of part of Peabody Veteran Memorial High School’s vocational program.
