Delays of up to 30 minutes are expected on the Franklin commuter rail line on Sunday, Aug. 14, due to maintenance work in the tunnel east of Walpole station, according to the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Co.
Shuttle bus service will be provided between Walpole and Norwood Central stations during the scheduled work on the rail line, MBCR said.
The company is required in its contract with the MBTA to replace 7.5 miles of rail each year throughout the commuter rail system, said Andrea Wheeler, a spokeswoman. The tunnel work is part of ongoing maintenance and improvement projects overseen by MBCR and was scheduled at the beginning of this year.
The work scheduled for Sunday should have minimal impact on passenger commutes to and from Boston, according to MBCR. Wheeler said the project is expected to be completed before Monday and not interfere with the morning commute.
The delays are expected on inbound trains 2706, 2708, 2710, 2712, 2714, 2716, and 2718, and on outbound trains 2707, 2709, 2711, 2713, 2715, 2717, and 2719.
