Dedham children’s author and illustrator Peter Reynolds will donate 1,000 copies of his book “So Few of Me” to students in Lynn Public Schools this week.
He will also read another of his books, “The Dot,” with Cobbet Elementary School first-graders on Wednesday in hopes the program would encourage the young readers.
“Within each and every child lies the potential to improve their own life and the lives of those around them -- helping to unlock that potential in every child is my passion and mission," Reynolds said in a statement.
The donated books are part of a partnership of Lynn Public Schools, Centerboard, and United Way that will provide more than 7,000 books for students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, according to a news release about the event.
Organizers hope the program reminds students to continue reading throughout the summer vacation.
“Summertime can be a carefree break from school and classroom,” Michael K. Durkin, United Way president, said. “For many children, however, it is increasingly referred to as a time when important progress made during the school year is lost.”
