Dedham teacher named as finalist for national science, math award
Oakdale Elementary School teacher Ruth Dorsey has been named a state finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching, a memo from Principal Holli Armstrong said.
Dorsey is one of three finalists in Massachusetts whose applications were forwarded to the national level, Armstrong said.
The excellence program was established in 1983 by the White House and is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. It aims to identify “outstanding” math and science teachers of kindergarten through 12th grade nationwide.
Armstrong also said that program organizers hope the teachers selected will serve as models for their colleagues and as leaders in science and math education.
Dorsey will be honored at the State House next June, when the national recipients will also be announced.
