The Dedham Fire Department will hold a free open house event Oct. 13 to celebrate National Fire Safety Month.

Participants will receive safety tips, learn how to plan escape routes, and how to crawl safely through a smoke-filled room, a news release about the event said.

The event is being sponsored by Papa Gino’s, which will provide free pizza to all attendees and coloring sheets about fire safety to children.

Fire Chief Jack Spillane said he hopes the event will allow the department to reach out to the community about the importance of fire safety.

“Our Open House allows families to get together and better prepares them to react if a fire does start,” Spillane said.

The Dedham open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at fire headquarters, 436 Washington St. More information is available by calling the department at 781-751-9400.
