A Dorchester resident was sentenced to a six-year prison sentence on Friday, after being found guilty of scamming 19 car insurance companies out of $461,624.

According to an FBI press release, Patrick Gelin began submitting hundreds of false claims out of his Brockton-based Premium Care Physical Therapy clinic in 2002. Gelin, who owns the clinic, instructed a physical therapist there to falsify patient records and charge insurance companies for treatments that had never been performed, authorities said.

Gelin has been ordered to pay restitution to the companies, and to forfeit $303,195.
