State Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred as a result of a multiple vehicle crash on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester. The incident has resulted in significant traffic back-ups during the evening rush hour as police process the scene for evidence.

A 54-year-old male stabbing victim has been brought to Boston Medical Center, and State police said a 62-year-old Quincy man has been arrested in connection with the incident. His name was not immediately available. The condition of the stabbing victim was not immediately known.

Police said three men are involved and that each of them behind the wheels of their cars when the incident began around 3 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Morrissey Boulevard. What is not clear this evening, police said, is who among the three drivers was involved in the fight, and what caused the fight to begin in the first place.

While the fight somehow involved all three men, only two vehicles were involved in the crash, State police said. "The exact sequence of events and a description of how each man was involved is still under investigation,'' David Procopio, State police spokesman, said in a statement.

The Quincy man is being booked this evening and could face arraignment tomorrow.
