An 18-year-old man was shot to death last night while he was on a front porch at a Dorchester home, police said.

Boston Police spokeswoman Jill Flynn said the man was found at 10:46 p.m. at 19 Groom Street, suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Officials said it was the 5th homicide in Boston this year compared with ten murders at this time last year.

Flynn said police are trying to determine a motive in the attack. No arrests have been made.

Earlier last night in Dorchester, a 19-year-old man was shot several times near the intersection of Columbia Road and Devon Street.

A police officer on duty in the area said in a report he heard five shots about 10:18 p.m. before the victim was found.

Flynn said the wounded man is listed in critical condition at Boston Medical Center. No arrests have made in that case.

Authorities believe the shootings are not related.
