This Sunday marks the annual Dorchester Day parade, which celebrates the neighborhood's settlement in 1630. It's expected to draw thousands of onlookers, and will wind down three miles of Dorchester Avenue, from Lower Mills to Columbia Road.
This year, the official "Mayor of Dorchester" is Mary McCarthy, a Port Norfolk resident who hosted several fundraisers for the event, raising more than $6,000.
Several politicians, including Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, U.S. Senator Scott Brown, and many city councilors are expected to march.
