Mattapan commuters get a little extra time to catch the train

Mattapan Trolley commuters will hopefully no longer miss their connection from the Red Line to the Mattapan Trolley, thanks to a new "HOLD" sign installed by the MBTA.
The MBTA Signal Department installed the lighted sign to alert street-car operators to hold their trains to allow commuters enough time to exit Ashmont Station and connect with the Mattapan-bound cars.
“We were getting complaints before that Red Line customers didn’t have enough time to board. It’s going to work out well and it’s been well received,” said Brian Dwyer, Director of light rail for the MBTA.
The light is triggered when a southbound Red Line train hits a switch on the track that turns on the light. Between when the train reaches the station and open its doors, customers have a little over three minutes to make it to the Mattapan Trolley platform.
