Whittier School Apartments to add units and renovate
The Boston Redevelopment Authority’s Board recently approved the approximately $11 million project at the Whittier School Apartments in Codman Square.
The project will renovate 14 of the existing affordable-housing units and add 15 new affordable housing units.
The decision which was unanimously approved by the BRA’s Board, will include four new buildings at Darlington Street and Southern Avenue.
The new construction, which is adjacent to the existing apartments, will add 30 construction jobs to the area and the new three-story buildings will include one, two, three and four bedroom rental units.
The 56,000 square-foot project should begin in December 2013 and construction should last about a year.
The Whittier School Apartments are state owned and managed by the Codman Square Neighborhood Development Corporation.
