Recovered pensions by Pensions Action Center top $40 million
The New England Pension Assistance Project celebrated a significant milestone Wednesday, when the group announced that it has recovered over $40 million in pension income since it opened in 1994.
Part of the Pension Action Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston, the Pension Assistance Project has worked with hundreds of retirees in New England to help them stay out of poverty and claim the money they’ve earned.
“Pensions enable individuals to remain financially secure in retirement, helping them stay out of poverty,” Ellen Bruce, director of the center, said in a statement. “Unfortunately, complex pension laws and corporate red tape sometimes make it difficult for people actually to receive the pensions they have earned. The New England Pension Assistance Project is here to ensure that workers and retirees receive what they have earned.”
