Local youth in Dorchester will get a chance to prove their baseball skills Thursday morning as the Fenway Challenge comes to Neponset’s Garvey Park.

The annual event put on by the Red Sox, the Boston Centers for Youth and Families, and the Boston Parks Department is for all youth ages 7 -14 and along with some of the valuable skills that will be learned, there will be base running, batting, and throwing competitions.

The winners of the skills competition from Dorchester will receive two tickets to a Red Sox game in September and will be recognized on the historic field.

After the skills competition, players from the Red Sox will be paying youth players a visit, talking with the kids about what’s it like to play in the big leagues.

The event begins at 10:00 a.m. July 19 and will run until 1:00 p.m. All equipment will be provided.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and for more information contact Mike Devlin at (617) 635-5206 x 150 or click here.
