More than 50 local students recently celebrated their academic success as they head off to college.
The teenagers and young adults, who hail from Dorchester and the surrounding neighborhoods, took part in the College Bound Dorchester program, a nonprofit group that helps guide student success and connect youths with college resources.
“Many of these young men and women made choices in the past that weren’t perfect. Like many of us, they didn’t always stay on the straight and narrow; yet that disruptive behavior was not who they are," Mark Culliton, CEO of College Bound Dorchester said in a statement.
"They are now college bound students, who have thrown off their veil of disruption and picked up a cap and gown. We all salute their efforts and support their next steps,” he added.
The students, ages 16 – 27, celebrated their success Tuesday during a graduation ceremony held at The Boston Foundation.
