A string of burglaries along Washington Street, from Codman Square to Gallivan Boulevard, has prompted the Boston Police Department's District C-11 Office to issue a “Commercial Burglary Alert” for Dorchester businesses.

The method of entry used in the past few burglaries has been through the rear door, according to the alert.

Burglars removed the hinge pins on the rear doors and cut alarm wires, a method that has been used across the city over the past few months.

Merchants are advised to check the perimeter security of their businesses and inspect security cameras to make sure they are focused on areas such as front and rear doors and avenues of escaped.

Residents or businesses aware of illegal activity are encouraged to contact the District C-11 Community Service Office at (617) 343-4524. Individuals who wish to provide anonymous information are encouraged to contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1(800) 494-TIPS or text the word ’TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
