Participants lined the banks of the Neponset River Saturday evening to catch a glimpse of their pumpkins on the water.

Hundreds lined the banks of the Neponset River in the Pope John Paul II Park on Saturday night for the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Boston Natural Areas Network’s 11th Annual Pumpkin Float.

Nearly 150 jack-o'-lanterns, lit up with candles, were sent down the river, floating on the dark waters during the unusually warm fall evening.

Participants, many in costume, came from all over for the yearly event in Dorchester.
