Walter J. Ramos, a South End resident and former vice president of operations at the Massachusetts Hospital Association, has been tapped to lead the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center, according to a release from the center.
A Fall River/New Bedford native, Ramos is a graduate of Roger Williams University and earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School.
He will be succeeding Joel Abrams who retired after serving for 26 years.
Ramos will officially begin his tenure as CEO and president of the health center at the end of November, the center said.
Described by the Dorchester House as an accomplished health care leader, Ramos has worked with the Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Medical Center. Ramos also served as assistant district attorney for Bristol County and commissioner of the New Bedford Housing Authority, said the release.
The Dorchester Multi-Service Center, is a non-profit health center located in Dorchester’s Fields Corner neighborhood that works to provide affordable and accessible health care to local residents, said its website.
